Tutorial. Phase: Fusion

Music infor4R sequencer. Fusion Phase Tutorial.

Observations: Many of the functions performed in this fusion phase are the same as those in the Study phase. They are not explained again, so it is advisable to have read the Study phase tutorial before starting this fusion tutorial.

1. Get a control midi file.

The control midi file is the clip where the mergers will take place. When merging, the notes of an instrument are replaced by the notes of the merging instrument, but the input and duration times of each note remain those of the replaced instrument.

To get midi songs we can go to the “/musicaV7.clips” folder and copy part or all of the “/musicaV7.clips/temesMIDI” subfolder to the “/musicaV7/temesMIDI” subfolder. You can also get midis online by internet.  There is no need to do anything for this tutorial, as we will use as a control midi “labamba.mid” which comes inside the “latina” subfolder to “/musicaV7/temesMIDI/latina”

We will do Fusions on “labamba.mid”.

We also have to have the Melody, Harmony and Drum clips we want to merge. We will probably have them selected in the Study phase.

We can go to the “/musicaV7.clips” media folder and copy the melody, harmony and drums media from the “/musicaV7.clips/” folder to the “/ musicaV7 /” folder. There is no need to do anything for this tutorial as we will be using the melody “M.primavera.0.midi” which already comes in the “/musicaV7/melodia/” subfolder. This melody corresponds to Vivaldi’s four seasons.

2. Start the infor4R sequencer

If we are in S.O. Windows: run the bat by double-clicking on … “C: /musicaV7/musicaV7.bat”. If this is the first time a windows message may appear, click on “More information” and “run”.

The infor4R sequencer Initial screen appears.

3. Click on the “explorer” button and a file explorer with a series of folders will appear on the left.

Click on the “/temes.MIDI” folder and the subfolders will be displayed (“latina” will be one of the subfolders). The “/latina” subfolder is displayed and the “labamba.mid” file will appear. Drag “labamba.mid” to the “Fitxer Midi Control” entry. Ensure that the path is correct: “Path Fitxer Control”: C:/musicaV7/temes.MIDI/latina. If not correct the Path.

Click on the “Fusio” button

4. The “labamba.mid” clip Fusion screen appears:

The panel contains:

A main menu bar

At the top are the general data of the topic in two lines

All instruments are broken down horizontally. One instrument per line.

A line of messages is presented at the bottom.

In the menu we have a “Play V.O.” (original version). Whenever we press this button the Original Version will sound without any changes and with all the instruments.

6.1 – Analysis of the instruments.

We activate only one instrument at a time and analyze them. The “Tenor Saxo” is the instrument that plays the melody. The rest of the instruments are accompaniments. The battery appears on the last line.

6.2 – We eliminate some instrument and modify volumes

We leave only the “Spanish Guitar” (accompaniment), the tenor saxophone (melody) and the battery active

6.3 – Change of instrument.

At the moment we do not change any instrument

6.4 – Project

We click on “Save projecte” and a new project “PF.labamba.0.prj” is created in the subfolder C:/musicaV7/projFusio.

You can now click on the “Project” button and a text window opens and we can write considerations and  reminders. You have to click on “Desar” to save the changes. If you log out, when you reopen the home screen in the “Fitxer Midi Control” field, you will have to drag the project name from the “projFusio” subfolder.

6.5 – Instrument-level scales and octaves.

We do not make changes

6.6 – Inversion H

We modify the “Spanish Guitar” (N-> 1) with a modulation factor 3. All these changes are to the liking of the consumer. They’re testing and choosing the changes you like best.

6.7 – Inversion V

We change the inversion V of the battery with modulation factor: 1

6.8 – Mergers

Clicking on the “Fusions” button in the main menu opens a window on the left where three folders appear: Melody, Harmony and Drums. Clicking on one of the folders displays the media stored in these folders. In principle, they are clips selected in the Study phase.

We click on the “Melodia” folder and drag the clip “M.laprimavera.0.mid” to the fusions column of the “Saxo Tenor” instrument (where the La Bamba melody is).

Playing “Play Fusio” sounds the selected instruments with the modifications.

Playing “Play Sel V.O.” the selected instruments sound without modifications.

Play “Play V.O.” the control clip sounds with all instruments and without modifications.

Clicking on the “f” letter on the instrument line undoes the change of this instrument. If we click on “F” at the top of the “f” column, all changes are undone.

We rehearse and change the instrument to the melody of “Saxo Tenor” to “Synthetic Voice”.

We can make changes or create new ones.

7 – Save the clip with the Fusion modifications.

Now we do “Save Fusio” And the clip that sounds in “Play Fusio” is saved in the subfolder: C:/musicaV7/fusion in midi form with the name: F.labamba.0.mid

It is also convenient to save the Project, updating the text window if desired, to make variations later.

8 – Edit clips obtained via infor4R sequencer.

It is quite unthinkable that a creation with the modifications made sounds good from beginning to end. Therefore the midi file obtained by infor4R squencer should be edited.

Clips obtained in the infor4R sequencer can be converted from midi to mp3 and then edited with any music editor (Ableton, Cubase,…) to repeat sequences, to remove dissonant parts, soundtracks, .etc.
